Marathon runner Jim raises nearly £3,000 for the RNLI

A Retford man has raised nearly £3,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) by running the London Marathon.

Jim Carley has run the London Marathon twice before, in 1993 and 1995.

After a gap of more than 20 years, he ran his third marathon on Sunday, April 24, and completed it in three hours, 45 minutes and 21 seconds, which means he met histarget as he was hoping to finish it in under four hours.

Since the start of September 2015 Jim has run more than 700 miles in training equalling more than 100 hours of running.

That is the equivalent of running from Lands’ End to Inverness.

Jim said: “The RNLI do sterling work across the coastline and beaches of the UK. In 2015 they rescued almost 10,000 people, with more than 8,000 lifeboat launches.

“Please help me to support their work.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me.”

So far Jim has raised £2,800 for the RNLI.

The RNLI provides an on call 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service and a seasonal lifeguard service.

Since it was founded in1824, its lifeboats, and since 2001, its lifeguards, have saved more than 140,000 lives.

And in 2014, half of all launches were to leisure craft users. This includes powerboats, yachts, kayakers, surfers, paddle boarders, body boarders and tenders without outboards.
