A good friend is worth their weight in gold and for Wendy Ratcliffe, her friend Amanda Johnson is priceless.
And Wendy, from Hardwick Road West in Manton, wanted to thank Amanda for all she does for her in the best way should could think of by presenting her with a Guardian Rose.
Every day, Amanda travels over from Rhodesia to see Wendy and help her with any jobs or activities that need carrying out, as well as just being there as a regular companion and someone to be there with.
And for Wendy, who is disabled, Amanda’s dedication makes a huge difference for her in every way.
“Every time I need to go anywhere, like to the shops of to hospital, whether that’s Bassetlaw or Doncaster, she is there for me every time, she’s wonderful,” said Wendy.
“I’ve got six children of my own but they are all out at work and things like that but Amanda is there and she just does that little bit extra.”
“She used to live near to me but then she moved away to Rhodesia and yet she still comes over to me every day and she deserves a Guardian Rose for all she does.”
“Even on a Saturday and Sunday, she comes over to me and she just goes that little bit further.”
“Every day it’s like she’ll get the shopping for me, she’ll takes the dog for a walk, she’ll help around the house and she’s just brilliant, she’s always there for me.”
Amanda admitted being stunned to receive her Rose and said she cares for Wendy because she is ‘her best friend’.
“It’s wonderful to receive this and she is my best friend and she is always there for me too,” she said.
“She’s always been there for me too, picked me up when I’ve been down and always been helpful for me and I want to do the same for her.”
“Roses are my favourite flowers too and this has been a lovely surprise.”
“I don’t know what I’d do without her, without having her around to be there to talk to and just be with.”
“For her to nominate me for a Guardian Rose is a lovely gesture and I’m thrilled to get it from her.”
