Sally Broadley, 37, of Winster Way, admitted the theft of £74.50 of goods from the Tesco on Jubilee Way South, Mansfield, on June 13.

The court heard she had previous convictions for driving with excess alcohol and failing to provide a specimen in 2015.

Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting, said staff detained her after she was seen hiding items underneath her child’s pushchair.

Broadley, who was unrepresented, told magistrates in Mansfield: “I am trying to rebuild my life. It was a silly mistake.

“I didn’t go into the store with that intention. It was an attempt to save money.”

She was given a 12 month conditional discharge, and she was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £20 surcharge.
