Scott David Allsop, 37, of Elston Close, admitted causing criminal damage and racially aggravated harassment on February 22, at Wainwright Avenue.

Neil Hollett, prosecuting, told the court Allsop visited his mother and was told to go, but returned 50 minutes later.

He said: “He was banging on the front door and screaming at his mother. He called his mother an old bag.”

His niece recorded this on her mobile phone and when Allsop spotted this, he hurled racist abuse at her.

She told police: “It doesn’t bother me because he says things like this when he’s under the influence.”

Allsop also kicked his mother’s Ford Kuga and put dents in the driver and rear passenger doors.

He also admitted failing to surrender to custody on March 9 at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court.

Emma Cornell, mitigating, said the episode was ‘the culmination of mental health problems and amphetamine use.’

She said: “He had gone to the address to ask for assistance. It seems his mother’s partner does not get on with him.

“He expressed his frustration in a way he shouldn’t have.”

The court heard that Allsop also suffers from Hepatitis C, and that his support worker had been on annual leave.

Ms Cornell said: “He needs a lot of support to comply. When his support worker is around he does attend.”

Magistrates said ‘the persistent nature’ of his offending and the racial element in the harassment charge aggravated the offences.

He was given a ten week sentence, suspended for 12 months, with a nine month drug rehabilitation requirement and a five day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was also ordered to pay £250 in compensation.
