Mansfield man downed THREE litres of vodka and fought cops

Police were called to reports of a man fighting door staff on Clumber Street, where they found Craig Siggee shouting and kicking a taxi, in the early hours of July 8.

He overpowered a female officer and was grabbed by other officers who feared he would spit or head butt them.

He was taken to the ground where it appeared he tried to bite an officer’s hand, said prosecutor Robert Carr.

When he was handcuffed, Siggee kicked an officer hard in the chest. He was put in leg restraints, but continued shouting, and banging his head against the wall of the police van.

A small amount of cannabis resin was discovered in his pocket back at the station.

“The officer said later that he couldn’t believe how violent he was being,” said Mr Carr.

Rebecca Williams, mitigating, said Siggee had been watching the World Cup and had “very little recollection of the incident.”

She said Siggee, who has mental health problems, was in prison last year, but hoped to qualify as a personal trainer.

Siggee, 25, of Sulby Close, Forest Town, admitted assaulting an officer, threatening behaviour and possession of a Class B drug, when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court, on Wednesday.

District judge Jonathan Taaffe said: “You behaved like a wild animal. You have a record for violence, albeit a very short record.

“I am persuaded that you’re worth one final chance. Please don’t prove me wrong.”

He gave Siggee 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, with an eight week curfew, from 8pm to 6am. He must pay the officer £100 compensation, as well as £85 costs and government surcharge of £115.
