Liam Rick, 24, pleaded not guilty to possessing the offensive weapon in Titchfield Park on August 16.

Rick, who is currently living at Framework housing association at Acorn Business Park, appeared before Mansfield magistrates this morning (September 2).

Lisa Morris, prosecuting, told the court how Rick allegedly threatened a young man whilst holding the weapon.

A witness told the police that a man was seen taking a dark cloth off an item, which turned out to be an axe.

Ms Morris said: “And the police arrived to find that an axe had in fact been left in the park.”

Magistrates decided to send the case to crown court for trial, given the alleged threats that were made whilst the weapon was being held.

Rick will appear before Nottingham Crown Court on September 16 for a preliminary hearing.

He has been released on unconditional bail until then.
