Christopher Lee Hudson, 25, of Cranmer Grove, admitted driving with excess alcohol, while he was unlicensed and uninsured, and failing to stop after an accident, when he appeared at Mansfield court on Wednesday.

A breath test revealed he had 73 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

The court heard that Hudson was driving when a black Vauxhall Corsa crashed into the fence on Layton Road, in Mansfield, on the morning of June 26.

Mark Stocks, mitigating, said: “He fully admitted the offence. He had been driving with his friend’s permission. He said he lost control on the bend when it was raining.

“He said he left the scene because he realised he had committed an offence.”

The court heard he had a previous conviction for criminal damage on March 30, 2016.

Magistrates were told that compensation of £700 was sought because the crash had damaged the concrete base of the fence.

However, they ordered Hudson to pay £400, because he receives income support, and banned him from driving for 21 months.
