Mansfield child abuse cop will still receive part of his pension

A former Mansfield police officer who was jailed for six years for carrying out sex offences against a 13-year-old girl will still receive part of his police pension, it has emerged.

Inspector Russell Dew (pictured) was jailed in 2011 for the assaults - grooming his victim by sending more than a thousand emails to the teenager using his police email account,

During his hearing four years ago at Nottingham Crown Court, the court was told that while Dew was off duty he became obsessed with the schoolgirl and invited her to his home near Newark, where he changed into a skirt and tights before committing the offences. In one instance, Dew, who was 44 at the time of the assaults, was wearing his police issue handcuffs, the court was told.

Now, in a statement issued by Nottinghamshire Police and Crime commissioner Paddy Tipping, it had been revealed that Dew will have his pension slashed by 60 per cent.

A statement issued by a spokesman this morning (Thursday 18th June), conformed that Dew’s pension would be cut.

It read: “The Police and Crime Commissioner has confirmed that former Inspector Russell Dew will have 60 per cent of the contributions to [his] force pension forfeited.

“The process involves the aggrieved police force applying to the Home Secretary to consider whether the former officer’s offence was either gravely injurious to the interests of the state or liable to lead to serious loss of confidence in the public service.

“Once the Home Secretary confirms this to be the case, the PCC also allows the officer an opportunity to make representations, prior to issuing the forfeiture certificate.”

Dew, who was based in Mansfield at the time of the assaults, admitted five counts of sexual activity with a child between February and August 2011.

In a separate ruling, the commissioner also revealed that former Worksop police officer Simon Jones would still receive half of his pension.

Jones was jailed for two years in 2012 after he admitted having sexual relationships with two victims of crime, including one instance of having sex while on duty.
