The Tigers were thumped 5-2 by Athersley Recreation, a side four places below them in the NCEL Premier.

Going two goals down inside six minutes left Worksop with a mountain to climb and it was game over at the break with the score at 4-1.

The management team claimed a comeback was still possible after the break but admitted the fifth goal killed the contest.

In a joint statement on the club’s website they said: “We are mega disappointed with the first 20 minutes, second half we were better and we did say at half-time you can get back into the game but we had another error in the second half that cost us dearly.

“When we got the ball and passed it could’ve easily been 5-5, we exchanged words with them in there, as bad as it was for them we feel just as much.

“We’ve got to try and get underneath them and pick them up because we know they’ve got it in them.

“Like we said the fifth goal kills you off, it was a game of two halves with how strong the wind was. We said at half-time if we get the goal to make it 4-2 we’re back in it but to concede the fifth goal meant it was game over.”

Milligan has won just two of his 14 games in charge since his 1st February arrival, and understands fan frustration.

“We’ve got to pick ourselves up and keep fighting and I feel for the supporters and they have the right to have a go, to be fair to the supporters they do get behind them and hopefully we can get a result on Saturday that will lift the lads.

“The fans are outstanding we have the best support in this division and arguably the two or three divisions as well.”
