Man in court over sex assaults at Bassetlaw Hospital

A FORMER carer has appeared in court charged with sexual assault against three elderly patients at Bassetlaw Hospital.

Matthew Shah, 23, of Savile Street, Retford entered no plea to the three charges Worksop Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Shah was charged last Friday, 23rd September, with three assaults which allegedly happened between 15th April and 14th May 2010.

He was working as a health care assistant at the Worksop hospital at the time, but has since been dismissed.

The alleged assaults relate to three women aged 64, 84 and 88, who were receiving care at the hospital.

Shah will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday 13th October for a plea hearing.

He was released on bail with conditions not to contact staff on ward C3 at Bassetlaw Hospital, and not to seek employment in any hospital or care home.
