Man in hospital after ‘serious and unprovoked’ attack in Worksop

NOTTS Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a ‘serious and unprovoked’ attack left a Worksop man hospitalised yesterday (Saturday).

A 49-year-old man sustained serious facial injuries after he was attacked in Carlton Road, close to the junction with The Baulk at around 12.15am in the early hours of Saturday 16th June.

Police say that the victim had intervened to try to resolve an argument between a man and a woman in the street when he was punched in the head from behind by another man, who had not been involved in the dispute.

The man was knocked unconscious and sustained the injuries when his head struck the ground.

He was taken to Bassetlaw Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

The offender is described as white, of stocky build and aged 20-30 years old.

Police are keen to speak to two men and two women who were close by and who may have vital information which could assist the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed or knows anything about the incident should telephone Notts Police on 101 and ask for Worksop or Retford CID, or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
