Man facing prison term

A WORKSOP man could be on the road to jail following his 31st offence of driving while banned.

Richard Hardy, 35, of Retford Road, was at the wheel of a Honda Accord that was stopped by police in Sheffield Road, Chesterfield on 21st March.

Checks found he was disqualified from driving in 1997, with the ban remaining in force until he passed an extended re-test.

Hardy admitted to driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

Magistrates at Chesterfield said Hardy had ‘an appalling record’ after hearing he had 30 previous convictions for similar offences.

They adjourned sentence for reports and warned he could be locked up at the next hearing on 30th April.
