Man dies following fall at Premier Foods site

A 46-year-old man has died following a fall at the Premier Foods factory at Claylands Avenue in Worksop earlier this month.

Contractor Nigel Chester, who was from Arnold, was visiting the site to carry out a routine test of the fire alarm system on Wednesday 1st May when he fell.

It happened at the Research and Development building at around 12pm.

He was taken to Bassetlaw General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Chester died of head injuries as a result of a fall from height.

The circumstances surrounding the death are being jointly investigated by police and the Health and Safety Executive.

A spokesman from Premier Foods said: “We can confirm that a contractor working for ADT was sadly involved in an accident at our Worksop site.”

“The contractor was conducting tests on the site’s smoke alarms as part of our regular programme of checks on this equipment.”

“The contractor was taken to hospital but regrettably died from his injuries.”

“We are co-operating fully with the authorities to investigate the causes of the accident .”

“Our thoughts are clearly with man’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.”

He added: “It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
