Man charged with armed robberies in Mansfield appears in court

A man accused of taking part in a series of armed robberies in Mansfield appeared in court this morning (3 August).

Jamie Richard Lakin, 39, formerly of Gladstone Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, appeared in Mansfield Magistrates’ Court facing charges of robbery.

Lakin, who is currently of no fixed abode, is accused of taking part in armed robbery incidents at One Stop Shop, Birding Street on 8 July, Sainsbury’s in Westfield Lane, on 12 July and Leeming Lane Service Station in Leeming Lane South on 20 July.

He has also been charged with an attempted robbery at Ladbrokes on Ladybrook Lane, on 24 July 2015.

The amount of cash stolen during these incidents is currently unknown.

District Judge Diane Baker said that a series of weapons were used in the incidents, including a knife, a screwdriver and a fake weapon.

DJ Bakers said: “These incidents caused great fear to people.”

The arrest comes after an appeal from Nottinghamshire Police, in which they offered a £1,000 reward for information that would lead to an arrest.

A 42-year-old man has also been arrested in connection with the robberies but has been released on bail pending further investigation.

Th case was adjourned for Nottingham Crown Court later this month.
