Wayne Barker, 35, of no fixed abode, admitted the thefts at Mansfield Magistrates' Court today.

Barker had carried out the shop thefts in October and November in Plantation Hill, Newcastle Avenue, Gateford Road and Retford Road areas of Worksop.

He stole a variety of chocolate, meat and other items.

Barker was arrested in Worksop town centre after he was spotted on CCTV.

He was jailed for 11 weeks, suspended for 12 months and given a 12-month supervision requirement as well as a drugs rehabilitation order for six months.

PC Glenn Turner, who made the arrest, said: "We were determined to locate Barker and bring him to justice for his shoplifting spree, unfortunately, we don't think that he would've stopped offending until he was held to account which was causing great distress to local shop owners. We just can't tolerate this behaviour in the town and we hope that this sentence will give him the opportunity to improve his behaviour, if he doesn’t then he will find himself behind bars."
