Man attacked with pick axe during burglary in Worksop

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a man was assaulted with a pick axe during a burglary in Worksop.

A group of men, who were wearing face coverings and dark clothing, forced their way into the house before one of them hit the victim in the head with the pick axe.

It is believed one of the other men was armed with a shotgun during the raid in Norfolk Street on Monday at 9.40pm.

The suspects left the scene in a black Audi.

The victim was taken to hospital with head injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening. He has since been discharged.

Ds Andrew Hall said: “We’ve increased reassurance patrols in the area and we are following multiple lines of enquiry including conducting house-to-house enquiries and trawling through CCTV footage within the local area.

“At this stage we believe this was a targeted attack however our enquiries are ongoing.

“We’d ask anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the incident of who may have seen the Black Audi leaving the scene to contact us on 101, quoting incident number 943 of 14 May, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
