Man admits burgling Papa’s before fire

Charlie Wayne Scott, from Yeoman Close, pleaded guilty to breaking into Papa’s fish and chips on High Hoe Road on Monday 9th January.

Appearing before Worksop Magistrate’s Court on Monday 6th February, the 21-year-old confessed to stealing £150 in change from the restaurant when he broke in with two others.

The court heard how the restaurant-owner discovered the theft following a fire in the restaurant when the front-door had been kicked in.

Scott claimed that he had been drinking on the evening of the break-in following an argument with his partner.

The court also heard that police had accepted that Scott never intended to start the fire which he blamed on his two accomplices.

Scott’s defence Mr Verity said: “My client is very disappointed that he finds himself in this situation.”

“He accepts that he acted wrongly and was very foolish and he puts it down to his drunken state – he shows genuine remorse.”

Sentencing was adjourned until 13th February to await reports from probation.

Scott was given conditional bail.
