Officers were called to an address in Gladstone Road early on Monday, 9th December where 58 year-old Mrs Walker’s body was discovered.

A 60-year-old local man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and then released on bail pending further enquiries.

A initial post-mortem carried out on Mrs Walker’s body failed to determine the cause of death and further tests are currently being carried out.

Mrs Walker lived at the address with her husband and is believed to have been suffering from illness for some time.

Detectives are continuing their investigations at the scene.

Neighbours have expressed their shock and surprise at the event and said they were stunned by the news.

“I was totally shocked, I never knew the couple who lived there but this really knocked me for six,” said Trudi Smith, who also lives on Gladstone Road.

“They are mainly older people on this road, we are the only younger ones as such.”

“We moved here about five years ago because it was a good area and we’ve never had anything happen here at all and then suddenly all this.”

“It’s frightening to think that something like this could happen right on your doorstep, especially when you’ve got young kids.”

“When I heard that there had been a body found, I just felt sick.”

“You don’t expect things like this to happen where you live.”

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, also said he had been totally shocked when he heard the news.

“One minute it was quiet and the next, all these police turned up and I wondered what the hell was going on,” he said.

“I was stunned when I heard what it was, I couldn’t believe it, this is a quiet little road where everyone keeps themselves to themselves.”

“I knew of them but I didn’t know them as such.”

“It’s just so unexpected.”
