Youngsters waited nervously to find out the grades which, for many, would determine whether they got into university.

Sixth formers achieved another year of exam success with Year 13 students exceeding all of last year’s major threshold figures.

The school said that 100 per cent of its students achieved passes in two or more A Levels - beating the national average.

And the number of high achievers who got A* and A grades was 23 per cent.

Academy principal David Sutton said the number of university applications was high again this year.

And a small number of students will be going on to apprenticeships and work related training.

“We are awaiting final confirmation of university places but anticipate all students securing either their first choice or a place through clearing,” he said.

“Again we will see Maltby students continuing their studies at different universities across the country.”

Some outstanding achievers from the Year 13 group were:

Callum Hattersley achieved an A in physics, A* in maths and A in further maths.

Kelly Linacre and Jessica Winn both scored three As in their triple BTECs in health and social care.

And Thomas Wright gained As in economics, physics and geography, and an A* in maths.

Year 12 high achievers included:

Jordan Pearce who got As in physics, product design, maths, and ICT.

Elizabeth Anderson scored As in business studies, maths, and biology, and Bs in economics and physics.

Ryan Brown got an A in biology, Bs in chemistry and geography and a C in history.
