The road was closed for over 12 hours between High Street and Morrell Street before re-opening at 9.20am on Tuesday morning.

The closure came about after the derelict bingo hall building went up in flames on Monday afternoon.

The building remained ablaze for over five hours as fire crews fought to control the flames.

Emergency services closed surrounding roads and cordoned off the surrounding area, amid fears the roof on the building would collapse.

Their fears proved correct as the roof duly caved in after some time.

Six appliances were called to the scene at around 1.20pm on the day and remained there for over 10 hours, putting out the flames and damping down.

The building, which was thought to contain a lot of wood which allowed the fire to take hold more quickly, closed down as a cinema over 20 years ago but was briefly used as a kitchen warehouse.

However, it had been empty for several years.
