Glynn Ellis Battersby was found guilty of one count of raping a child aged under 16 at Sheffield Crown Court last week.

He was also found guilty of one count of sexual assault of a child, and one count of sexual activity with a child on Friday 17th January.

Detectives branded his crimes as ‘appalling’ and praised the courage his victim showed.

The 46-year-old was sentenced to ten years in prison for the first charge of raping a child, 12 months for the second charge of sexual assault of a child and nine months for the third charge of sexual activity with a child.

The judge ordered that the sentences be served concurrently meaning the Battersby will serve 10 years behind bars.

Battersby, of Mortimer Road in Maltby, had denied all the charges put before him at Sheffield Crown Court.

A jury found him guilty following a trial.

Detective Constable John Morris, who led the investigation for South Yorkshire Police, said: “The victim in this case has displayed an unbelievable amount of courage and resilience during this process.

“I wish to extend my thanks for their patience, determination and trust.”

“The sentence given reflects the appalling nature of these crimes.”
