Make your charity vote count

A COMMUNITY initiative has launched in Gainsborough to encourage residents to support good causes across the district.

The Charity Choices programme, which launched at Yorkshire Building Society on 8th June, is calling on people to vote for their favourite charity to receive cash donation.

The Market Place branch has £1,000 to give away and staff have nominated three Gainsborough charities to receive a share of the prize.

The number of votes received by each charity at the end of the two-week voting period will determine the amount of money each receive.

The charity with the most votes will receive a £500 donation, the second £300 and £200 for third place.

Charities nominated for support at the Gainsborough branch are:

- Gainsborough Adventure Playground Association – safe play activities for children up to 14 years old and inclusive of those with special needs;

- Gainsborough & District Community Welfare Association – supporting the local vulnerable community and providing activities and social events to the elderly throughout the year;

- St Barnabas Gainsborough Hospice - caring for the terminally ill and supporting their families throughout Gainsborough and the surrounding areas.

Richard Dunstan, branch manager at the Yorkshire Building Society branch in Gainsborough, said small change can make a big difference to charities.

“My team have chosen three Gainsborough charities that are important to our local community and we’re putting the decision on the amount of money received by each into the hands of that community,” he said.

“It’s your community, your vote and your Yorkshire and we’re hoping people will call in to get involved.”
