M18 closed following crash

The M18 is closed between junctions 1 and 2 northbound after an accident in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).

Fire crews from Maltby, Edlington and the technical rescue unit attended the scene at around 2.15am.

It is thought the collision involved two vans.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews had to cut a 44-year-old driver of one van from his vehicle. He was taken to Rotherham Hospital with head, abdomen and leg injuries.

A passenger was taken to Doncaster Hospital with a suspected broken wrist.

Diversions are in place and the motorway is expected to re-open shortly.
