Lyric juniors in Wonderland...

The Lyric Theatre Junior Players impressed their audience with dramatic excerpts from the story.

And their costumes were the talk of the town - with Tweedledum and Tweedledee being particular favourites.

“The children enjoyed it very much. They always have a lot of fun on stage and that’s what counts,” said chairperson Annie Parker, 76.

“We have 15 children on the books at the moment, and are hoping more will come along in September after our summer break.”

“They learn a lot from it. They learn to interact with each other and they love taking the shows out to the local care homes to perform for the elderly people there.”

That is where the group will perform next. On 10th, 17th and 24th June they will visit Woodlands Care Home in North Anston, Davies Court and Waterside Grange in Dinnington.

They will be joined by the Salvation Army timbrels.

Annie has been running the drama group for ten years now. She said: “I remember the first time we went to perform in the care homes, the children were in tears because the old people were clapping them. It’s lovely to see how much everyone enjoys it.”

Annie said thanks to Paula Russell and Pauline Spacey who helped make the costumes, and Alison Harksus who coaches the children.

“It’s a team effort and it all paid off,” she said.
