‘Lucky man’ dragged from burning car

A DRIVER injured in a road traffic collision was dragged from his car by a passer-by - shortly before it burst into flames.

The man, in his 20s, had been driving a Vauxhall Corsa which left the road and collided with a lattice steel electric pylon, on the A631 near Scotch Spring Lane at Maltby.

Still dazed from the impact, he was pulled out by a witness to the collision, just before fire ripped through the vehicle.

Crews from Maltby were called at 5.20pm and arrived quickly on the scene but the car was well alight, and firefighters used breathing apparatus to put the fire out. It was completely burnt out.

The driver was treated at the scene for injuries which are not believed to be serious, and taken to hospital.

Maltby Watch Manager Alan Blenkiron said: “This man was very lucky that a member of the public saw what happened and dragged him out.”

“The car quickly became engulfed in flames but fortunately he appears not to have suffered serious injuries.”
