‘Loving’ Jacky

tributes have been paid to a ‘loving’ Worksop woman who passed away the day before her birthday.

Jacky Ordidge, 45, of Hemmingfield Way, died in Bassetlaw Hospital from aspiration pneumonia on 16th June - six months after she was admitted with a chest infection.

Her mum, Jean Ordidge, said her daughter was an amazing person who made an impact on everyone she met.

“Jacky was so loving and such a brilliant person. She didn’t have a bad bone in her and loved everyone she met,” she said.

“She was so brave and strong in hospital and never complained about anything. She really enjoyed her life and packed so much into it.”

Jacky had suffered for many years with chest infections but suffered a further setback around eight years ago when she was diagnosed with lupus while living at Hillside House.

Lupus is a disease which attacks the immune system, causing severe fatigue and depression.

Aunt Syl Dexter said it soon began to have a gradual effect on her quality of life.

“When Jacky was younger she would always keep her bedroom spotless and help out with meals, but once she had been diagnosed with lupus, she didn’t do that so much anymore,” she said.

But despite ongoing health problems Jacky always managed to live her life to the full - from going on holidays and eating out to shopping and seeing musicals.

Cousin Karen Dexter said Jacky was a massive ABBA fan and loved going to see the Mamma Mia! musical in London.

“She was in her element and was singing louder than them on the stage at one point. Her favourite song was Dancing Queen and all the nurses on the ward used to sing ABBA songs to her,” she said.

Jacky fell ill shortly after Christmas and spent nine weeks in intensive care at Bassetlaw Hospital before moving to the main ward.

Said Jean: “The ward and the nurses were like a second home to her. The nurses took her under their wing and treated her like family.”

“They used to call her Princess and paint her nails. They took a lot of pressure off us and we will never forget their support.”

Jacky’s funeral was held on 26th June at the Priory Church, followed by burial at Hannah Park.

David Ward sang How Great Thou Art at the service, which Karen said moved the congregation to tears.

“You could hear a pin drop in the church - it was just stunning,” she said.

“Her funeral was beautiful and it was hard to be sad because it was such a celebration of happy and fulfilled life.”

Syl said Jacky was devoted to her family, includng sister Joanne, uncle David and cousins Lucy and Emma, and said they all feel blessed to have known her.

“She was such a happy person - always smiling and so loving,” she said.

“You would meet her for five minutes and have a friend for life. She was a wonderful person and will be very sadly missed.”
