Love is in the air!

CUPID’S arrow hit the target and helped to raise £145 for a local school.

Youngsters from Maltby Redwood Junior and Infant School put on their glad rags for a romantic evening before the school broke up for half term.

They enjoyed a disco and refreshments including soft drinks and hot dogs at the Valentines’s ball.

There were two balls, one for key stage one and foundation pupils and one afterwards for key stage two children.

“The children had a really nice night,” said Jan Brown, a member of the Friends of Redwood, the school’s PTA, which organised the event.

“There were a few pecks on the cheek, cards swapping hands and teddy bears.”

The Valentine’s ball is just one of many events the Friends of Redwood organises to help raise funds for the school.

Mrs Brown said: “The PTA is quite active and do a lot of fundraising.”

“We do it (have balls) frequently and usually have something around Easter time like a fair. We also have a leavers ball in July and an event at Christmas.”

“We have quite a few race nights throughout the year and bingo nights once a month.”

“The money raised goes to the Friends of Redwood. It held separately to school funds but we spend it with the school say so.”

“The school has got a laptop fund and is saving for that so some of the money has gone to that.”

The next Friends of Redwood event is a bingo night on 21st February, followed by another on 20th March.

Both events start at 6pm at the school on Redwood Drive. There is no admission price and it costs £1 per book and there are six games in a book.
