Lots going on in Gainsborough

Members of Gainsborough Rotary Club were among guests at an open night held by 203 Squadron Air Training Corps at the Drill Hall in Gainsborough.

Members were able to see the refurbished facilities and also cadets undergoing instruction.

Rotary president Julian Needham handed over a cheque to Flt Lt Gray, thanking the group for manning certain club events and expressing the wish for a long-lasting and fruitful association.

St John Ambulance cadet James Ward, 19, from Gainsborough was invited to Buckingham Palace on to celebrate his achievements in completing the Grand Prior Award.

James was recognised by Princess Anne for completing the award, which is the highest a St John Ambulance cadet can achieve.

He has shown at least three years of sustained effort studying 24 different subjects – including first aid, communication and working in the community.

“Visiting Buckingham Palace and meeting The Princess Royal was an amazing experience and a great way to celebrate completing the Grand Prior Award,” said James.

Scotter man Kenneth Green, 90, has been awarded honorary life membership of the Institute of Directors.

Mr Green, who has been a member for 50 years, was presented the certificate by Lincolnshire IoD chairman Annette Wood.

Having mostly worked in insurance, he has been a director of several companies and also served in the RAF, before retiring in 1981.

He paid tribute to the friendship and support of fellow IoD members over the years.
