Arron Hayden Blakey, 26, of Rectors Gate, Retford, admitted driving over the limit when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The court heard he was stopped by police on Albert Road, on August 1, at 1.40am, after police followed his BMW.

A breath test revealed he had 54 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Sarah Neale, mitigating, told the court Blakey drove an 18-tonne lorry to provide protection for highway maintenance crews and was likely to lose his job as a result of the conviction.

He was fined £650 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £65 and court costs of £85. He was banned from driving for 12 months.
