The hospice, at Cedar House on North Road in Retford, is a cause dear to the Bassetlaw’s heart.

Over the last 12 months the public have dug deep to help the hospice raise its £250,000 annual running costs.

And what a year it has been. We’ve heard from Bassetlaw people who have raised money for the hospice in imaginative ways - from tap dancing to car boot sales.

“We have endeavoured to use this wonderful opportunity to highlight the many fundraising events not only those organised by the charity but also those that have been arranged by groups, organisations and businesses in Bassetlaw,” said hospice administrator Ian Hall.

That money covers the running costs of the building and also complimentary services and facilities, including therapists and patient transport.

Guardian reporters were even invited into Cedar House to see what it is like and meet the people who use the facilities.

It was a real eye opener to meet the service users and dedicated volunteers who keep the place going.

Ian said: “We have been able to show some of the work that takes place at the hospice and also the ways the community have supported our fundraising activities.”

We also took a sneak peek behind the scenes of the Worksop charity shop and met the team of volunteers who help run it.

Appeals for donations also brought bags of unwanted clothes, toys and books flooding in.

Ian added: “On behalf of everyone involved at the hospice we would like to say a big thank you to the Worksop Guardian for their support over the last year and of course to its many readers for their continued generosity to the charity.”
