Local apprentice helps firm scoop top accounting award

Standing up on the podium alongside your work colleagues is a real achievement as a Level Two accounting apprentice from Rotherham College of Arts and Technology found out.

Jamie Hoyle, 19, got into accounting after completing an A Level in the subject.

Soon after, he decided he wanted to pursue a career in accounting and went to Rotherham College of Arts and Technology to do an apprenticeship.

Now Jamie works at Flex Accounting Services, winner of the Bookkeeping Practice of the Year 2012 award by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers.

The team was presented with the award by HRH Prince Michael of Kent in November last year.

And although it was a team effort to win the prestigious award, Jamie said: “I did contribute a little by helping with the work load.”

When asked if he would be where he is now without Rotherham College, he said: “I doubt it because they helped me get this job so it really was down to them.”
