Lincs: Volunteering conference was a great success

Volunteer managers hear from Paul Wilson from PR Wilson Media on the benefits of connecting communities through social media tools.

The event was organised by Involving Lincs and was supported by Anglian Water and West Lindsey District Council. It took place during national Volunteers’ Week and held at the Lincolnshire Showground.

The event focused on capitalising on the enthusiasm and opportunities of those already working in the sector.

Guest speaker, Kevin Curley CBE, who was awarded a CBE for his services to voluntary and community sector talked about ways managers could address challenges faced in today’s volunteering sector.

He said: “This is an invigorating event with over 100 people here, so congratulations to the organisers. People will leave feeling very positive about voluntary work whether it is recruiting, training or managing volunteers they will feel more confident.”

He was also joined by Rob Jackson, Director of Rob Jackson Consulting Ltd, who advised delegates on successful engagement, motivation and embracing technology.

He said: “It’s a time of great potential for the voluntary sector, and there’s never been a better chance to get involved. The National Volunteer Database is a wonderful online resource and the centres are well-equipped to help anyone who walks through their doors.”

Grant White, lead officer for enterprising communities West Lindsey District Council’s described the event as invaluable.

He said: “This has been a fantastic event, which has brought together a diverse group of people who are full of ideas and a passion for helping others. To get the chance to see what else is going on in the sector is rare, so we’re hoping this event can take place again.”
