Lincs: NHS release figures of staff members who have been physically attacked

NHS Protect have today (Thursday 20th November) released the 2013/14 figures for reported physical assaults against NHS staff in England.

These figures were collated from 266 health bodies across the country.

The figures for the Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust which is in the private and community care sector are 27 total assaults, 24 assaults involving medical factors, three assaults not involving medical factors, the NHS Workforce total staff is 2,377, the number of assaults per 1,000 staff members based on the NHS Workforce total is 11, the total number of staff is 2,572, the number of assaults per 1,000 staff members based on the total declared staff is 10 and the amount of declated sanctions is 0.

The figures for Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Trust which is in the mental health sector are 563 total assaults, 527 assaults involving medical factors, 36 assaults not involving medical factors, the NHS Workforce total staff is 1,980, the number of assaults per 1,000 staff members based on the NHS Workforce total is 284, the total number of staff is 2,160, the number of assaults per 1,000 staff members based on the total declared staff is 261 and the amount of declated sanctions is three.

The figures for the East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust are 115 total assaults, 18 assaults involving medical factors, 97 assaults not involving medical factors, the NHS Workforce total staff is 2,821, the number of assaults per 1,000 staff members based on the NHS Workforce total is 41, the total number of staff is 3,800, the number of assaults per 1,000 staff members based on the total declared staff is 30 and the amount of declated sanctions is 91.

Richard Hampton, Head of External Engagement and Services at NHS Protect, said : “No NHS staff should be physically assaulted and we encourage staff who are victims of violence to press charges against assailants.”

“Those who work in the NHS have the right to provide care in a safe environment.”

Employers must do all they can to support staff in preventing incidents and pursuing offenders”.
