Lincolnshire: Tackling teenage domestic violence

Karen Shooter, domestic abuse manager at the county council, said domestic abuse is often more complex and widespread than people realise.

“The recent change in the definition of domestic abuse highlights that it is not always physical and that young people suffer abuse in their relationships too,” she said.

“Young people shouldn’t have to put up with abuse and it’s important they know there is help out there.”

“We’re keen for young people to design a poster which appeals directly to people of their age group (between 15-18), to really help us get the message out there.”

“So, if you and your friends want to get involved, or if you work with young people, run a community centre or social club, we want to hear from you.”

Entries should be in by 4th October. A panel of judges will chose the winner, and as well as winning a Netbook, they will have their poster design made into a countywide campaign.

Sarah Norburn, domestic abuse coordinator at Lincolnshire Police, added: “Lincolnshire Police has supported the This is Abuse national campaign since its launch in 2010, reminding young people that abuse in a relationship can happen to anyone.”

“Working with G4S and the county council to raise awareness and involve young people in creating a local campaign is another step to highlight the issue and ensure people know where to go for support.”
