Being a member is an exciting opportunity to help guide and influence local flood risk management in the Midlands for the River Trent catchment.

RFCCs are committees set up by government to decide on local priorities, raise local levies and approve programmes of work.

They also support the Environment Agency and local authorities in working with communities and others to raise funding.

They need to have a balance of skills, knowledge and experience across its membership.

The Environment Agency is looking for someone to help manage flood risk and make a real difference to people’s lives and the environment we live in.

Established in 2012, the Trent RFCC covers the River Trent, which includes parts of Staffordshire, the West Midlands, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

“We want someone who is persuasive and able to influence change, who is used to making difficult decisions, and who can make a positive difference to communities, the environment and the local economy in the face of economic and environmental challenges,” said an Environment Agency spokesman.

“Membership of the RFCC is one way that local people can help us through their expertise or ability to speak for communities at risk.”

“Applications are invited from anybody with an active interest in flood and coastal risk management.”

She said they were for someone with knowledge and experience in working with flooded communities, flood action groups, community engagement and empowering people to take action.

More information about RFCCs and details of how to apply can be found at www.environment-agency.gov.uk/aboutus/organisation/139038.aspx

The closing date for applications is Friday 29th November 2013.
