The Light Up A Life service started with prayers at the United Reformed Church, before people lit candles in memory of loved ones that they had lost to cancer.
They then led a lantern-lit procession towards the Christmas tree in the Market Place.
“It was really an opportunity for people who have lost others to cancer to express their sorrow,” said church secretary Susan Bee.
“We call the Christmas tree in the market ‘The Tree of Life’, because that’s where we remembered our loved ones.”
She added: “It was a very moving service.”
