A-LEVEL ROUND-UP: South Yorkshire schools celebrate top grades

Wales High School, Storth Lane, Kiveton Park, recorded its best ever set of grades, with 60 per cent achieving A*-B grades.

For the first ever time, two students at the school, Ashleigh Weir and Luke Miller got A* grades in all four of their A-level subjects.

Ashleigh is heading to Cambridge to read English and Lewis Waller will go to Oxford to study Earth sciences.

Head teacher, Pepe Di’Iasio, said: “We are delighted to announce that our students this year have achieved the highest A level results in the history of the school. The combination of hard work, determination and dedication of our students, the support of our parents and governors, and the outstanding teaching over time that has enabled almost one in four grades achieved to be at A*-A, along with 60 per cent of all grades being A* -B.”

He added: “We are extremely proud of all our students and, following on from these excellent results, we are delighted that all of our students have either secured a place at a university of their choice or have secured a high profile apprenticeship. Congratulations to all our young people we are extremely proud of you all.”

At Aston Academy, Aughton Road, Swallownest, pupils also excelled with a 96.4 per cent pass rate at A2 level.

The academy said 30.5 per cent of all Level 3 examinations were awarded an A or A* grade or equivalent.

There were many excellent personal performances, most notably, Daniel Reynolds achieved two A*s and two A grades, earning a place at Durham to study maths. Other outstanding success stories include: Olivia Elsey, achieving an A* and two A’s, Ben Taylor with three A grades and Rebecca Eyre and Richard Nicklin who both achieved an A*, an A and a B.
