Laughton’s own Calendar Girls

But they have ended up as the Guardian’s page three girls this week after stripping off for a charity calendar to raise money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

The calendar was the brainchild of a group of customers at the Travellers Rest pub in Laughton.

Landlady Charlotte Buckingham said: “Some of the customers thought it would be a good thing to do to raise money as a couple of our customers have had to use the services Bluebell Wood offers.”

“We are a really close community here at the pub, and everybody knows everybody.”

“Bluebell Wood has become very close to all of our hearts and it is a great local cause for us to support.”

So three weeks ago the group of 12 ladies, aged from 22 to 70, braved the bitterly cold weather to strip off for their photo shoots.

All of the pictures featured in the calendar were taken in and around the Travellers Rest.

“Everyone was a little bit nervous at first, but it turned out to be a really good laugh,” said Charlotte.

“Once everyone was here together and we got started the nerves went. But it was freezing, especially as we had to go outside for one of the photos.”

The finished calendar was revealed for the first time at a special launch event at the pub on Tuesday night.

“Everybody has been congratulating us and telling us how proud they are of what we’ve done,” added Charlotte.

“They can’t believe how brave we have been to do something like this. But it’s all for a really good cause - we haven’t just taken our clothes off for no reason.”

“We just want to raise as much money as possible for this great cause.”

Each year Bluebell Wood needs to raise over £3million to deliver its services and receives no statutory Government funding.

Currently the care team is supporting over 150 children and their families in South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Notts and parts of North Lincolnshire.

The hospice at North Anston offers 24-hour care to children on a one to one basis, and allows families to stay to have a break, which is often the first they may have had in years.

All proceeds from the sale of the calendar will go to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
