Knight school!

PUPILS at Ranby House have been testing their moves against one another in the form of the school’s chess club.

A stalwart group of Year 8 boys and girls, together with Mrs Quinlan, have been working tirelessly to run the Chess Club at lunchtimes.

A school spokesman said: “They have almost come to the end of their year group competition for this term and it was fantastic to see so many children take part in the earlier rounds.”

“The later matches have been fascinating arenas of fiercely competitive play with both the victorious and the cruelly vanquished showing mature sportsmanship.”

More than 100 boys and girls have taken part in three knock-out rounds and pre-rounds.

In the Spring Term the Chess Club have the Delancey UK Chess Challenge and the Bassetlaw Area Schools’ Chess competition.

The school will be sending teams to the Worksop College Prep Schools’ Chess Tournament in February as well as continuing with their other usual fixtures with different schools.

If any schools in the area are interested in arranging a fixture, contact Mrs Quinlan at Ranby House School on 01777 703138.
