Kiveton man seriously injured in M1 crash

A KIVETON man suffered serious head injuries when his car left the M1, travelled up a banking and overturned yesterday (Monday).

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident which happened at 4.27pm on the northbound carriageway of the motorway, around half a mile before the exit sliproad at junction 34.

Officers believe the silver coloured MG ZR car was travelling in the centre lane, when the driver apparently lost control and left the nearside of the motorway, travelled up a banking, then rolled over several times before coming to rest on the hard shoulder.

The driver, a 28-year-old man from Kiveton,was trapped in the vehicle for some time, before being released by firefighters.

He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Northern General Hospital, in Sheffield.

Anyone who witnesses the accident should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 641 of 11 February, 2013.
