Recent items to be discarded in the ‘grot spot’ include a grubby mattress, broken furniture and a soiled child’s car seat, causing despair to residents who have to walk past the rubbish.

Kilton man Steve Minchin, who lives in the village with his wife and is also chair of the Worksop East Tenants and Residents Association, is calling for an end to the illegal fly-tipping.

He said: “We just want something to be done about it now.”

These people seem to think that this public land is an easy-drop off and don’t seem to have a problem with dumping their rubbish here for all to see. Residents have to walk past it every day.”

“I have been contacting Notts County Council and trying for ages to get CCTV installed, or even just signs put up warning people not to dump their trash here.”

Coun Julie Leigh, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw Council, said: “The council takes illegal fly-tipping extremely seriously.”

“Unfortunately, this appears to be a well-known site for what might be called ‘professional’ fly-tippers who flout the law and illegally dump waste that they have collected from unsuspecting residents.”

“Firstly, we would advise residents that before you employ anyone to take away your waste, ask them to produce their Waste Carriers License and check their legitimacy. Secondly, should your waste end up being fly-tipped, we will pursue any evidence that can be traced back to you and you will be handed a Fixed Penalty Notice or may even be prosecuted.”

“Although limited resources mean that we cannot put CCTV cameras in all well-known locations throughout the Bassetlaw district, we will continue to make regular patrols in the area and use covert surveillance equipment to catch illegal fly-tippers red handed.”

“You can report fly-tipping via www.bassetlaw.gov.uk or by calling 01909 533219.”
