Fire crews from Staveley and Maltby attended the incident in Killamarsh shortly before 11pm on Saturday, 14th December.
The man was trapped in his car and had to be freed using specialist cutting equipment.
He was taken to hospital by land ambulance and fire crews then made the scene safe before the road fully re-opened.
