Kids can go wild at Idle Valley for half-term

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is gearing up for half-term with a packed programme of events at its Idle Valley Nature Reserve at Retford.

With more 450 hectares of wildlife habitat to explore and great family friendly facilities at the Idle Valley Rural Learning Centre, the Idle Valley is an ideal destination.

The holidays get off to a flying start with a themed weekend tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday, February 14 all about spring birds and nest boxes.

With drop in activities between 11am and 3pm.

On the Sunday, there will also be special Wild Kids sessions between 11am and 12noon and 1pm to 2pm for children aged five and above (accompanied by an adult.

The cost is £4 per child and don’t forget your wellies.

On Tuesday, February 16 and Thursday, February 18, there will also be drop-in outdoor activity sessions between 11am-12noon and 1-2pm (£4 per child), while on Wednesday, February 17, the reserve will host a special Woodland Workshop for children aged eight to 14, where they can make fires, build shelters and get crafty and creative.

The cost is £10 per child and the session runs from 10.30am to 2.30pm. Pre-booking essential.

For those wishing to simply take a walk, perhaps followed by a relaxing drink and a slice of café’s famous home-made cake, there are a network of trails and an outdoor wild play area.

The Rural Learning Centre is open from 10am to 4pm, seven days a week, including Cafe and Wildlife Trust Shop.
