Jury hearing for Whitwell man

A WHITWELL man is to stand trial before a jury accused of intending to carry out drug deals.

Wayne Conway is alleged to have had 10 re-sealable bags containing cannabis during a police raid on his home.

Conway, 23, of Holmefield Road, Whitwell, appeared before magistrates at Chesterfield on Wednesday.

He was charged with possessing 11.58 grams of cannabis with intent to supply it on 16th July.

He entered no formal plea but his solicitor Jon Barber indicated that he would deny the offence in due course.

Presiding magistrate Linda Brooks said the local justices’ sentencing powers were insufficient in this case.

She adjourned the case until 2nd February when it is expected that he will be committed to Derby Crown Court for trial. Conway was granted bail pending the next hearing.
