Joy and Max are named Misterton Citizens of the Year

Misterton Parish Council has named Joy Johnson and Max Horton Citizens of the Year in the over-18 and under-18 categories for their contribution to village life during 2015.

The awards were made at the annual parish meeting this month.

Joy was nominated for the fund-raising she has done for Cancer Research, following the death of a family member from cancer.

With a series of events, Joy has raised around £5,000 for this worthy cause.

Max was nominated for the help he regularly offers to youngsters learning to swim at the Misterton Minnows Swimming Club, his help at Sure Start events at the Fire Station, and other fund-raising activities.

He was described as a fantastic role model to young people in the village.

They were presented with certificates and a cash prize by council chairman Barry Cooper.

At the meeting, Barry Cooper was re-elected chairman, and Peter Marsden as vice-chairman, for the year 2016-17.
