John Mann criticises Government's decision to sell off Red Arrows base

The news this week that the RAF Red Arrows' base at Scampton is going to be sold off is very disappointing, writes Bassetlaw MP John Mann.

The announcement was snuck out on the last day before the parliamentary recess.

The site is due to close in 2022 and has been justified in an attempt by the Government to save money.

Earlier this month, we celebrated 100 years of the Royal Air Force and for this decision to be made without any proper consultation or discussion is very worrying.

This decision should have never have gone ahead in the first place without thorough discussion.

As the summer holidays are now upon us, there will be many families who will be going hungry and relying on the food bank.

The issue of holiday hunger is real and present across Bassetlaw.

Children who would usually get a free meal at school will not have this provision and so there will be an extra demand on the food bank over the summer period.

This week, the food bank especially needs pasta sauce, tinned potatoes, tinned Smash, tinned cold meats, stuffing, tinned custard, tinned fruit, dilute squash, UHT milk, men’s toiletries and washing up liquid.

If you are able to, please donate items to my office on Stanley Street in Worksop.

As it is the parliamentary recess, I will be based full time in Bassetlaw instead of going to Parliament.
