Richard Martin Frost, 41, of Lincoln Street, admitted two counts of theft and two breaches of a criminal behaviour order.

The court heard Frost was spotted on CCTV on June 26 and 29 stealing a total of £592 worth of goods.

Judith Kirkham, prosecuting, told magistrates in Mansfield that Frost was banned from entering the Priory Centre, in Worksop, on February 26 for two years because of his shoplifting.

Frost appeared via video link from HMP Nottingham because he had been recalled there until August 14 after breaching a post-sentence supervision order relating to another offence.

Ian Pridham, mitigating, said Frost would have pleaded guilty earlier if the prosecution’s evidence had been available.

“After his release from prison on the last occasion he went to stay with his father who was extremely ill,” said Mr Pridham.

“He has been taking heroin and mamba. That addiction happened while he was looking after his father.

“Sadly on July 20 his father died.

“The double irony is that he was serving a sentence a couple of years ago when his mother died.”

He said Frost was now on a methadone programme and was ‘very motivated to move his life on’.

Magistrates sentenced him to 22 weeks in jail and ordered him to pay £592 compensation.
