It's the time to remember our fallen war heroes

Remembrance Service held at Gainsborough Parish Church followed by a parade to the war memorial.

Gainsborough’s main tribute will take place on Remembrance Sunday on November 13.

The church service at All Saints Parish Church will start at 10am followed by a procession, led by The Royal British Legion and the Clergy, to the War Memorial. There will be a short act of Remembrance and the Two Minute Silence will take place at 11am, the Last Post and the Reveille will be played and wreaths will be laid.

The Friends of Gainsborough Cemeteries and Chapel will be opening the Cemetery Chapal over the weekend of November 12 and 13, where there will be an exhibition about Gainsborough and World War One, and there will also be cemetery walks.

Friday, November 11, is Armistice Day, the day that marks the end of the First World War and at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month the two minute silence is observed. To mark this a short Act of Remembrance will be held at 11am, including the Last Post and Reveille, in Gainsborough’s Market Place.

Small troughs are placed at Gainsborough’s War Memorial to act as a Garden of Remembrance and everyone is invited to lay their own symbol of remembrance before November 11.

Michael Wragg, chairman of the Gainsborough branch of the Royal British Legion, said: We bow our heads to remember those who fought for our freedom in the two World Wars.

“We also mourn and honour those who have lost their lives in more recent conflicts.”
