Fifteen-year-old Kirsty Gregson orchestrated the walk around the track at the Forest Town Arena in September last year, managing to raise more than £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support as a result.

Kirsty, of Forest Town, planned and organised the whole event and got more than 50 young people to take part alongside her.

The scores of young walkers braved the darkness and pouring rain to complete the challenge and raise an impressive £3,160.60.

At the end of their experience, they were rewarded for their efforts with breakfast, which was kindly donated by the Forest Town Chip Shop.

Stacey Smalley, Macmillan fundraising manager, said: “Kirsty has worked really hard to make sure this event was successful and that everyone enjoyed taking part.

“She never gave up when obstacles were put in front of her, she was determined to make it happen and raise as much as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“The money raised will help so many people living with cancer - she is a true inspiration to us all.”

Every day 17 people in the county hear the devastating news they have cancer, and eight people die from the illness.

This will see Nottinghamshire’s population of people living with cancer nearly double between 2010 and 2030.
