Ilkeston man with mobility problems faces driving ban

Graham Lester, 61, of Dallimore Road, admitted driving with 56 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes, when he appeared at Mansfield court on Wednesday.

The court heard that door staff at the Oakham Suite, on Nottingham Road in Mansfield, called police when they saw Lester stagger to his Skoda in the early hours of June 18.

Lester had a previous conviction for driving with excess alcohol from 2009.

Lester said: “You have done me. I can hardly walk as it is. There’s nothing I can do. I won’t be able to get to the shops or anything.

“My friend who lives ten miles away has to take me to Tesco. There’s no buses around my way at all.”

Magistrates banned Lester for three years and fined him £200 with costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
